Legal and privacy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
This is a personal astrophotography log kept by David Southworth in Southport, England. It is a hobby site: there are no visitor accounts, no comments, no forms, no newsletter and no advertising. Nothing here is used to build a profile of you.
Analytics
To understand which pages people find useful, the site uses a self-hosted copy of Plausible running on a subdomain of calibratedideas.com. It sets no cookies, collects no personal data, and does not track you across other websites. There is no third-party advertising and no data is shared with anyone.
Hosting and server logs
The site runs on shared hosting. As with most web hosting, the provider may keep standard technical server logs — for example IP addresses and requested pages — for security and operational purposes. Those logs are held by the hosting provider under their own terms and privacy policy.
Photographs and video
The images and video are of astronomical objects, photographed with a DWARF mini smart telescope — usually from Southport, occasionally elsewhere in the UK. They contain no people. Each entry shows the date it was captured, and observing notes are written by the site owner.
Contact by email
If you email hello@calibratedideas.com, your message and email address are used only to read and reply. They are not added to any mailing list and are not shared with anyone else.
External links
This site links out to calibratedideas.com and occasionally to other astronomy resources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this notice does not cover.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law — the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 — you have rights over any personal data held about you, including the right to ask what is held, to have it corrected or erased, and to object to how it is used.
This site collects no personal data beyond anything you choose to send by email, so in practice there is very little to exercise those rights against. You are welcome to ask anyway at hello@calibratedideas.com. If you are not happy with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Terms of use
Copyright
The photographs, video and written observations on this site are © David Southworth. All rights reserved.
You are welcome to link to any page here, and to use the share buttons to pass a link on. Please do not republish, redistribute or adapt the images or video — including for commercial use, in print, or to train machine learning models — without asking first. A short email to hello@calibratedideas.com is usually all it takes; permission for non-commercial use with credit is rarely refused.
Using the site
Look around as much as you like. Please do not attempt to gain unauthorised access, disrupt the service, or place automated load on it beyond ordinary browsing.
No warranty
This is a hobby project provided as-is. It may be offline, incomplete or wrong. Target lists, observing notes and weather forecasts are personal working notes, not advice — please do not rely on them for anything that matters, and never look at the Sun without proper solar filtration.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Governing law
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Changes
This notice may be updated if the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
